Scrub Style … I am so grateful for our medical professionals who go above and beyond to serve us each day. They do a great job of taking care of us when we need it the most. Their hours are long and tiring, which means being comfortable is essential. I am sharing my most chic scrub-style finds to help our medical professionals look good on the job! … It seems like clinics and hospitals are always cold, regardless of the season. A light jacket is a perfect item to keep on hand at all times to stay warm. I have this natural and tan one, and it has great pockets, plus a cozy sherpa fabric!

My Drift

Today’s 10,000“I’m not walking at the mall.” … My walking buddy’s tone made it clear that no argument could convince her otherwise. Heeding the advice to strive for 10,000 steps every day, our intrepid group had been walking every morning since February when the June heat shut us down completely. It was just too hot. I had brought up the idea of walking at the mall, and she had shut that down, too. … Eventually, my need for my daily steps drove me to announce to the group that I would be walking at Central Mall the next day, and anyone who wanted to join me was welcome.

From Devastation to Determination

Wearing striped pajamas, laying on a bed of wooden slats, a 13-year-old orphan girl named Alexandra wished for death. Considering the many ways she might achieve the desired result, she whispered a prayer asking God to let her die when she says God answered her, almost audibly saying, “I need you to love my people.” It was at that moment that a defeated child living in a Nazi concentration camp had her heart miraculously move from a place of devastation to one of determination.

Overcoming the Darkness

Not many people know, but 1960 marks the year that the world was blessed with a little boy named Oree Bradley. He was the fourth of six children, and they lived outside the city limits of Emerson, Arkansas. The Bradley family lived so far out of the city limits that when Oree started school in 1965, the school bus would not come down his country road because the condition of that road was so bad. To get to school, Oree and his siblings would walk almost a mile down a trail that intersected with a more bus-friendly road. There, the Bradley children would board the bus and go to school.

National Bald is Beautiful Day

Our son Jaxon was born with a head full of hair. Our friends even joked he looked like a little weatherman ready to report. … I remember at the age of three when we first noticed spots of hair loss, the size of a dime. We initially thought that rubbing his head on the car seat might have caused it until more spots appeared, and the first ones became larger. At one point, he had a few areas the size of half dollars. We asked his pediatrician about the hair loss at his yearly check-up, but Jaxon was healthy.

When Christy and Dr. Jeff Young decided to get married in 2019, they began the search for a house they could call theirs. However, after continued searching, they realized that the house Christy and her girls already lived in had all the makings of the perfect place to bring their families together. “At the time, nobody lived with us, but we still wanted a space for everybody. This is not just the girls’ house; we wanted the boys to feel at home too,” Christy said.

The design of our home sets the backdrop for our life, and how we function there writes our story. … Dorothy was on to something when she said, “There’s no place like home!” It is one of the most famous quotes from one of the most classic movies of all time. Dorothy simply needs to get back home. I find it interesting that Dorothy’s home is far from perfect, yet she still has a powerful connection to it. The movie’s entire plot revolves around Dorothy returning to her little farm in the middle of tornado alley.

A Sarine Thought… or Two

Where Everybody Knows Your Name … If you watched television in the 1980s and 1990s, I know you just sang that title line in the tune of the Cheers theme song. You are not alone. I totally hummed it while I typed! But do not let the title mislead you. I am not about to talk about my favorite coffee bar or hang out (true confession: I am a literal teetotaler). Nope. I want to talk about what it means to be home, and at least for me, that means being known and knowing others. … I grew up in a small town. Being raised in Sulphur Springs, Texas, is one of the biggest blessings of my life.
