Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a wife, a mother of three, a former campaign manager, political advisor, Fox News contributor, and was the White House Press Secretary for two years under the Trump Administration. There’s even talk about the potential of a 2022 run for Governor of Arkansas in her future.

Her most recent endeavor adds “Author” to her resume. Speaking for Myself: Faith, Freedom, and the Fight of our Lives Inside the Trump White House provides an inside look at her unique role as the link between the media and the President, living her faith in front of the world and raising kids while managing a stressful career.

Mrs. Sanders is the daughter of the former Governor of Arkansas and former pastor of Beech Street Baptist Church, Mike Huckabee. She currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with her family.

What is your favorite Texarkana Memory?

I attended kindergarten at Beech Street Baptist Church where my dad was the pastor and I would ride with him to work everyday. Before school started I would “work” from a little spot under his desk that I referred to as “my office.” I created many masterpieces there!

What is/was your favorite Texarkana restaurant?

Our family loved to go to Peña’s Mexican Restaurant on Sundays after church. We knew the family who owned it and they were such kind people and had the best salsa!

How do you describe Texarkana to your friends?

It’s a great small town and I was blessed to grow up in a place with a strong sense of community where people genuinely cared about one another and helped each other.

Tell us about someone from Texarkana who impacted your life?

My sister-in-law Lauren is from Texarkana. We didn’t meet until we were in college at Ouachita Baptist, but we became best friends during our freshman year and after we graduated she married my brother David. We now both live in Little Rock and each have three kids about the same ages who go to the same school and are best friends.

What makes Texarkana famous?

I love that you can go downtown and stand with one foot in Arkansas and one in Texas at the same time. A few weeks ago I took my kids to the state line and they got to do something I loved to do as a kid and I loved sharing that memory with them. I’m teaching them to say Texarkana is twice as nice!

What is your nickname for Texarkana?

T-town

What words do you live by?

Always be yourself and be proud of it. God made each one of us special and unique. Never let the world define you because your Creator has already done that and no one can do it better.

TXK Roots is Texarkana Monthly’s forum to highlight and honor Texarkana natives who have accomplished big things in the world. These folks may have relocated, but they took the values, education, work ethic and creativity instilled in them by growing up in this unique border city and used these qualities to blaze extraordinary trails. We asked them to share their thoughts about growing up here. No matter how far from Texarkana they may find themselves, we will always consider them our neighbors and we are proud to claim them as forever members of our extended Texarkana community. After all, “everyone is famous in their hometown!”
