Where was your favorite place to eat in Texarkana?

My favorite place to eat would have to be Cattleman’s for their prime rib, but Fat Jacks, if we are going by family and atmosphere.

What was the teen hangout when you lived here?

Our garage would probably top the list of places where my friends and I spent the most time. Next would be “Dodson’s Farm,” when we could make that happen.

Where was your favorite place to shop in Texarkana?

The only answer I can think of is the Central Mall. I can still smell the fountain.

Were you a Hawk, Leopard, Razorback, or Tiger?

I was a Razorback! I had plenty of good times during the “Rivalry Week” leading up to the Arkansas/Texas game.

How do you describe Texarkana to your friends?

It’s a decent-sized small town.

Who is someone from Texarkana who impacted your life?

Besides going with the obvious answer of my parents, I would have to say Coach Burdine. By most 5A football standards, I was too small to play anywhere on the field. But Coach Burdine and the rest of the coaching staff believed in me and my ability, allowing me to be a three-year letterman.

What do you love about Texarkana?

I love the people. Being a border city creates a unique identity and gives you some unique characteristics. And even though it also creates rivalry within the borders, it also creates closeness and respect between everyone who is from there.

What would you change about Texarkana?

I would continue to do what they are accomplishing downtown. It’s such a unique and historical area, and people are starting to see that.

What do you think makes Texarkana famous?

I think it’s the fact that it is a border city. And it’s home to Fat Jacks!

What is your nickname for Texarkana?

T-Town

What do you miss about Texarkana?

Family and friends

What words do you live by?

“Dreams only work if you do.” and “Pray!”

Anything we haven’t asked about that you would like to share?

I just want to say thank you to all my friends and family in Texarkana for continuing to support what I do. I know I could not support myself, much less my family, without your continued support. Also, miss you, Dad!

TXK Roots is Texarkana Magazine’s forum to highlight and honor Texarkana natives who have accomplished big things in the world. These folks may have relocated, but they took the values, education, work ethic and creativity instilled in them by growing up in this unique border city and used these qualities to blaze extraordinary trails. We asked them to share their thoughts about growing up here. No matter how far from Texarkana they may find themselves, we will always consider them our neighbors and we are proud to claim them as forever members of our extended Texarkana community. After all, “everyone is famous in their hometown!”
