Good Evening TXK

I'm about to share an unpopular opinion. It is so unpopular that it will probably be almost offensive to some, so don’t hate me, but… even though I know Thanksgiving should be a holiday for all, I honestly wish Whataburger was open on Thanksgiving Day. Yes, I mean this wholeheartedly. Don’t get me wrong, ham and turkey are GREAT, but would it really be so bad to throw a honey butter chicken biscuit on the side? And you can never go wrong with some fries! My granny is famous for the magic she makes in the kitchen, so this is no shade towards her, but I really miss my honey butter chicken biscuit on the days I have no access to it. You always want what you can’t have, I guess.

As we transition into a season of thanksgiving, and unfortunately, that Whataburger free day, let us come to the table seeking to give our full thanks, with full hearts and hopefully by the end of the day, with full stomachs! But first, let’s show our gratefulness for these fun events happening in Texarkana during the month of November...

Neal McCoy + The Jimmy Wooten Band Concert
Crossties—Friday, November 5

I know there are some country music fans out there who will NOT want to miss this concert! Friday, November 5, Neal McCoy (yes! THE Neal McCoy) and Jimmy Wooten will be at Crossties Event Venue in downtown Texarkana! The doors open at 7 pm and the show begins at 8 pm! For ticket information, head on over to OuthouseTickets.com! Seats will sell out fast for this one, so grab some while you can!

Masterworks II Ancient Fire and Voices
Perot Theatre—Saturday, November 13

Does everyone realize how lucky we are to have these amazing symphony performances here in Texarkana? I know I go on and on about Justin Bieber, but this is an evening highlighting the immense talent and leadership of Texarkana Symphony Orchestra’s musicians. The evening will feature Jorge Cruz on Bassoon.

You do not want to miss this amazing show. Purchase your tickets online at texarkanasymphony.org or call 870-773-3401.

Texarkana Out of the Darkness Walk
Bobby Ferguson Park,—Sunday, November 14

Is there anything better than walking for a good cause? You should definitely come and show support at the annual Out of the Darkness Walk! The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) says it is because “now, more than ever, it’s important to be there for one another and take steps to safeguard our mental health and prevent suicide.”

This fundraiser is to raise money for the AFSP, and the funds go toward life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide.

There’s no doubt the pandemic has affected many people’s mental health, and we need to show we are here to support each other! If you want to join this significant cause, the walk will take place on Sunday, November 14. Registration begins at 12 pm and the walk will be from 1:15-4 pm at Bobby Ferguson Park. For more information, visit the official American Foundation for Suicide Prevention website.

Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers 2022 Competition
Arkansas High School—Sunday, November 14

On Sunday, November 14, the Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers competition is BACK, and it is going to be fabulous! It starts at 5 pm at Arkansas High School, and will be a great night of poised, talented and beautiful girls entertaining the community and competing for great scholarship opportunities. Come out and show them your support.

Scott Joplin’s Jazzy Birthday Cocktails
1923 Banana Club (Located in the Basement of the 1894
Gallery and Lofts Complex, Club Door Entrance on Front Street)—
Saturday November 27

The Scott Joplin Support Group of friends and Main Street Texarkana are once again elated to celebrate our hometown music giant Scott Joplin, America’s original “rock star,” whose 1899 hit song, “Maple Leaf Rag” sheet music was found on pianos in nearly every salon in the nation!

Guests will enjoy “jazzy” entertainment by the jazz trio, Three of a Kind, singer Carol Miles and exceptional pianist and singer Haley Patillo, along with signature drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

The 4th annual Scott Joplin Birthday painting “Scott Joplin at Beasley Music Store, 1907” by artist Henry Fort will be the item of a silent auction. The acrylic on stretched canvas painting is in honor of Joplin’s 153rd Birthday Anniversary!
