Talking, Talent, & Testimonies

Getting Fear Out of Life

I was born a writer. As soon as I learned to write and spell, I wrote poems and gave them to my mother. I worked as a reporter for several years after I graduated from Texas A&M—Texarkana with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.

So, I wake up every day wondering what to do with my talent. I know the Lord blessed me with this ability for a reason. I have a desire to write encouraging words because today is a difficult time for so many. I have been in harmful situations and suffered from addictions and insomnia. I have a desire to share my experiences with others. I just don’t know where to start.

The last few months of my life have been a whirlwind of trials that have made me ask, “How am I even still standing, walking, and talking?” My life has taken turns I could have never foreseen, and I am asking questions over and over. How did I get here? Why so much chaos at an age when I expected more peace? The only thing I can figure is that others must be going through similar things—things that are unbearable even to discuss. Prayer is constant in my life and God’s word gives me answers for everything. But I can’t get enough. I wonder if God is really so good that He will work out all my problems? Well, every promise He gives says yes. He not only says yes, but He says it in a thousand different ways, yet my limited human understanding keeps me wondering and trying to fix everything on my own.

Faith is a work in progress. It takes a lot of time and practice and work from within to exercise faith and trust in HIS wonderful promises. It means investing a little time to read His stories, and after you read it, you must work on remembering what He says. For example, “For God has not given us the spirit of FEAR, but of POWER and of LOVE and of a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7). How often are we plagued by some kind of fear or uncertainty? God clearly says HE is not giving us fear, so that verse should make us question how to get fear out of our lives. He also says He gives us POWER. How do you get the power He promises? We only have to seek it! Finally, how often do you ask yourself, “Am I crazy?” No! He gives us a SOUND MIND.

God chose the written word to be our guide, so I will not underestimate its POWER ever again. Thank you, Pastor James A. McMenis from Word of God Ministries in Shreveport, for helping me with that, and thank you GOD for leading him. BLESS YOU ALL, readers and Christian brothers and sisters—love and encouragement to all of you.
