Innovate. Lead. Excel.

HOMETOWN PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

In an era when education faces unprecedented challenges, one district is proving that bold vision and community commitment can transform what's possible for students.

Texarkana Independent School District isn't just keeping pace with change—it's leading it. From groundbreaking Career and Technology Education facilities to dual credit programs that allow teenagers to earn associate degrees alongside their diplomas, TISD has become a model for what public education can achieve when a community invests in its future.

At the heart of this progress is strong leadership. Guided by the superintendent and an experienced administrative team, TISD has embraced a forward-thinking approach that prioritizes academic excellence, career readiness, leadership development, and whole-child support. This vision is not only shaping classrooms but also strengthening the region's workforce pipeline and reinforcing Texarkana's position as a hub for educational opportunity.

One of the most visible demonstrations of this commitment is the overwhelming community support behind the 2022 Bond. Approved by voters, the bond is transforming campuses across the district and bringing modern, purpose-built learning environments to life. These investments reflect a shared belief that students deserve spaces designed for collaboration, creativity, and real-world application.

Among the most anticipated projects are the new and expanded Career and Technology Education facilities at Texas High School. These state-of-the-art buildings are redefining what career preparation looks like at the high school level. Designed to mirror professional environments, the CTE facilities allow students to explore pathways in business, technology, engineering, health sciences, digital media, skilled trades, and more. Through hands-on instruction, industry-aligned tools, and partnerships with local businesses and higher-education institutions, students graduate prepared for college, careers, or both.

TISD is also the region's largest provider of dual credit opportunities and associate degree graduates. In 2025 alone, 43 students earned associate degrees before receiving their high school diplomas. This distinction highlights the district's commitment to academic acceleration and affordability, allowing students to enter college or the workforce with a significant head start while reducing long-term educational costs for families.

Innovation in TISD begins well before high school. The district's PK–12 STEM pipeline engages more than 2,000 students in experiences ranging from early problem-solving in elementary classrooms to advanced robotics competitions and spaceflight experiments, cultivating curiosity and critical-thinking skills at every stage.

At the forefront of this STEM commitment is Martha & Josh Morriss Mathematics & Engineering Elementary School, a magnet campus recognized as one of the top-performing K–8 schools in Texas. Ranked #6 statewide out of 6,603 K–8 schools, a category that includes middle schools, Morriss also earned a #3 ranking in reading. Three of the schools ranked above Morriss are Gifted and Talented academies, emphasizing the school’s strong performance in a highly competitive field.

The opening of Parks Elementary School represents a new chapter in early education. Built as a modern replacement campus, Parks Elementary emphasizes leadership, exploration, and academic foundations through collaborative spaces designed for personalized learning and early exposure to college and career concepts.

Leadership development is a defining feature of TISD. With seven Lighthouse-certified Leader in Me campuses, the district integrates leadership principles into daily instruction, empowering students to take ownership of their learning and personal growth. These skills are reinforced through student councils, service opportunities, and campus culture initiatives. TISD's commitment to student voice is evident in its 17 consecutive years as a National Gold Student Council, a rare and distinguished achievement that reflects excellence in leadership, service, and civic engagement.

Athletics and fine arts are equally valued as essential components of a well-rounded education. TISD offers 24 athletic programs that emphasize teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, while its award-winning fine arts programs provide opportunities in music, theatre, visual arts, dance, and performance. These programs consistently earn regional and state recognition, and play a vital role in student confidence, creativity, and community pride.

The middle grades serve as a critical bridge in the TISD system. Texas Middle School offers career-focused academies, Pre-AP coursework, and diverse electives and clubs, encouraging students to discover their interests while building a strong foundation for high school success.

Across all campuses, TISD prioritizes safety, support services, and meaningful community partnerships. From after-school enrichment programs to multilingual education and wraparound support, the district is intentional about meeting students where they are and removing barriers to learning. These efforts ensure that every student has access to opportunity, encouragement, and the resources needed to thrive.

Together, these initiatives form a district that is not only educating students but also shaping future leaders, innovators, and contributors to the region. With modern facilities, innovative programs, and a culture rooted in excellence and community engagement, Texarkana ISD continues to set the standard for public education in the area.

As the district looks ahead, its mission remains clear: to prepare every student to launch their future. Through bold vision and intentional investment, TISD is helping students Innovate. Lead. Excel.
