TASD 2025 Senior Perspective

It feels surreal to be an Arkansas High School graduate! Just yesterday, it seems, I was starting my first year of school in the Texarkana Arkansas School District, and now, here I am, ready to embark on new adventures! My time at Arkansas High was marked by tons of laughter and tears,  but most importantly, the countless memories and friendships I've made within these walls. I've learned a great deal, not just from my teachers but also from my classmates.

High school is often depicted as a trial run for your future, where you discover who and what you want to become, but for me, it was much more than that. From the moment I stepped foot onto the practice field as a freshman, the band became my family. Though summer band was tiresome and hot, the blood, sweat, and literal tears put into the program formed a bond that surpasses the musical performance you witness on the field. As I explored the band, I discovered my passion for color guard.  The balanced blend of dance, music, and precision had me in a chokehold! Although I had never held a true leadership position before and rarely went out of my way to make friends, I decided I wanted to try out for captain, and... I got it! I will forever be grateful for the opportunity that allowed me to challenge my abilities. This position taught me the importance of communication, patience, and, most importantly, the ability to motivate my fellow guard members and work with a diverse group of people who have many different strengths and weaknesses. We may have had many "come to Jesus" meetings to sort out our issues, but we were also the closest section in the entire band. Together, we pushed ourselves to the limits, adjusted to change time and time again, and ultimately performed as one. Our performances were just mere minutes of the countless hours spent perfecting our skills and becoming a group that I will always be proud of!

However, my growth didn't just stop there! I applied for Student Council Secretary as I sought to contribute not only to our school but also to our community.  As Secretary, I was entrusted with maintaining clear and precise records of attendance and meeting notes and maintaining communication between the other officers. While these tasks may seem simple, they were essential for our counsel to function properly. Being a part of the Student Council allowed me to advocate for my peers. We organized events, participated in community service, and worked to create a more inclusive school environment.  It was through this experience that I discovered my passion for service.

Despite having many extracurricular commitments, I always strived for excellence and desired to make the most of my high school education. I took many Advanced Placement courses, which wasn't always easy, but it helped me learn the importance of managing my time, staying focused on my academics, and asking for help when needed. The support of my teachers, mentors, and family played a huge role in my success. They challenged me to think outside of the box, encouraged me to pursue my passions, and provided me with the resources I needed to thrive. Being named Salutatorian was an unexpected honor, which I'll always hold dear. It was not only a recognition of my hard work but a reminder of the responsibility that comes with it.  As one of my teachers once told me, "Dreams don't work unless you do!" Well, my dream has finally come true! I am now planning to attend my dream school, the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, where I will pursue a major in nursing, all thanks to my experience at Arkansas High School.

As I step forward, I hope to carry with me the lessons I've learned and the friendships I've forged. The world outside of High School is vast and full of opportunities, but it also presents challenges that will test my strength. However, I will always hold dear the values instilled in us by our teachers, mentors, and families.  I will continue to embrace change, learn from my mistakes, and never stop growing. Once a Razorback, Always a Razorback!

Thank you, Arkansas High!
