Turning the Page with D.C. Gomez
Stories have the power to connect people. On Thursday, October 16, at 11:30 a.m., local author D.C. Gomez will speak at the Friends of the Texarkana Public Library’s luncheon and fundraiser at the Cabe Fellowship Center of First United Methodist Church downtown. Gomez will help turn the page toward a stronger future for the Friends of the Library.
An award-winning USA Today bestselling author, podcaster, motivational speaker, and coach, Gomez was born in the Dominican Republic and grew up in Salem, Massachusetts. After studying film and television as an undergraduate at New York University, she joined the U.S. Army and proudly served for four years. “The military did change my life,” she has said. “I was in basic training when 9/11 happened, so my experience is different than most of the world. It changed the way I saw life and made me more compulsive than I could possibly imagine.” She went on to earn two graduate degrees—one in adult education and one in science administration.
Following her service in Iraq, Gomez accepted a job at Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, where she settled and began writing her first novel. Storytelling has been a part of her life since high school, and she wants “people to escape and be entertained and at times motivated” by her work.
The author of more than 25 books, Gomez has published motivational works such as Dare to Believe and Dare to Forgive, as well as children’s books including Charlie, Where’s Your Talent? and Charlie, Dare to Dream. She also hosted the podcast Inside the Minds of Authors, which explored what “lies underneath and behind works of fiction and nonfiction.”
Texarkana itself provides the backdrop for many of Gomez’s urban fantasy novels. “The Intern Diaries series takes place here,” she writes. She hopes to “introduce readers to the magic of Texarkana” through the perspective of someone who has made it her home. “Readers get to experience Texarkana, the different locations, and the magic it weaves.” One of her recent titles, Cursed by Fur, is a darker standalone retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, set in the Intern Diaries world. “For those who enjoy thrillers and mystery with a touch of fantasy, this is a great book to get lost in.”
Her collection Tales of the Lost Things is part of a short story series tied together by a magical library. Each book centers on a different theme, offering readers multiple adventures in one volume.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $25 per person, with catering by Julie’s Deli—named one of the eight best delis in Texas. Reservations may be made at the Friends of the Library Bookstore, 2024 Stateline Avenue, with cash or check. Copies of Gomez’s books will be available for purchase before and after the luncheon.
