Texarkana ISD Celebrates the Opening of Parks Elementary School
Texarkana Independent School District celebrated the ribbon-cutting and open house for the new Parks Elementary School, built on the historic Pine Street site. The building unites elements of the past in its exterior architecture with a state-of-the-art interior, designed to inspire a new generation of students.
Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubaker and Principal Audrey Shumate welcomed attendees, highlighting the school’s focus on early college and career exploration, leadership development, and fostering creativity. Board of Trustees President Wanda Boyette reflected on the years of planning and community support that made this vision a reality.
Special guests included Mayor Bob Bruggeman, City Council members, Dr. Robin Hickerson, CEO and President of the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce, who began her career at this historic location, and George Moore, who served as principal for 10 years. Attendees shared fond memories of the school’s past while expressing excitement for the limitless opportunities the new campus will provide.
The celebration concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, inviting students, families, and community members to explore the campus and look ahead to a bright future.
