Giffin-Humphrey Wedding
Lexi + Wes Humphrey
How did you meet?
Our story is not the most romantic. It all started when I met one of Wes’ friends at my junior year prom and followed him on social media. He often posted videos of himself that included Wes, and I thought Wes was pretty cute, so I followed him, too. Nothing happened, and four years went by. But then, in 2020, I remember sitting in my dorm room, bored because COVID was ruining the year. Stuck in the dorm, I posted a picture on my Snapchat with the caption, “Can’t wait to say ‘peace out to this semester. 2020 sucks!” Wes commented on my post, agreeing with me, and the rest is history!
What drew you to each other?
One of the main things that drew us together was having very similar values and desires for life. This was important to each of us when looking for our forever partner.I was drawn to Wes because of his smile that lights up a room, his very silly personality, and his excitement about becoming a dad one day. Wes would say he was drawn to my unique personality, my sense of humor, and the way I love those around me so deeply.
What happened during the proposal?
Our proposal was perfect. Many weeks before this special day, family pictures were brought up in conversation. I was excited to be a part of family photos with Wes’ family and was glad the plan was for everyone to wear neutral colors because I had seen a really cute brown dress I wanted to wear at Target a few days prior. As the day arrived, with the perfect dress and with the help of my sisters and momma, I got ready, still having no idea this would be one of the best days of my life.I started getting concerned when Wes was a little late picking me up for these “family photos” because, on his way to my house, someone didn’t stop at the red light and hit him! He was obviously stressed when he arrived, but after giving him a big hug and making sure he was not hurt, off we went to Bringle Lake. As we arrived, I didn’t see his family and instantly told him to call them to see when they would arrive. He called, but with no answer, we decided to get out of the car to greet the photographer and start our individual shots while we waited on the rest of the family. I think you know the rest; Wes ended up proposing in the most perfect way possible, and we had beautiful pictures of the moment. His family obviously never came for pictures, but when we went back to their house after, they had gathered all our friends and family for a surprise engagement party! June twenty-fifth will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Who was in your wedding party?
We had seven bridesmaids and seven groomsmen—a special group of family and friends. We also had three ushers and four ring bearers, or what we like to call “ring security.” Our ushers included mine and Wes’ brothers, and our ring security was made up of my little nephews, whom I love so deeply. These people were chosen to be a part of our big day because we love and cherish each special relationship we share with them. We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding party.
What was your favorite part of your wedding?
Our favorite part of our wedding was, of course, getting married, but if we had to choose a specific moment, we would have to choose our last dance. After everyone else had gone home, we had one last dance just the two of us in an empty room, and it was so special. Getting time to finally slow down from all the chaos and take in the beauty of the day, justWes and I, was the most perfect way to end one of the best days of our lives. I recommend that any upcoming bride make sure this is in her plans because I will cherish that moment forever.
Were there any unique challenges when planning your wedding?
Having a wedding in Texas in January, we didn’t know what to expect with the weather. One challenge we faced was a slight ice storm a week before our wedding, which messed up our plans for catering. Initially, we planned on having hors d’oeuvres outside, which included Natchitoches meat pies. With the wedding day being pretty chilly, we ended up skipping that and instead kept all the food inside. Everything worked out, though, and the food was amazing.
Were there any unique features of your wedding that made it different from traditional weddings?
One thing we had at our wedding that we loved was our live painter. As this trend is growing, we felt it was worth the cost. Our painting is hanging up in our living room as a constant reminder of our beautiful day. I suggest anyone interested in doing this should definitely add it to their wedding budget. Another unique thing we did was place our wedding cake on a movable table so it could be wheeled into the middle of the dance floor for our cutting of the cake moment. But it also allowed the catering staff to wheel it to the kitchen for quick and easy cutting and distributing.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We had an amazing five-day honeymoon in St. Lucia. The island was one of the prettiest places we have ever been. We stayed at the Sandals Resort Grande St. Lucian. The people were so welcoming in St. Lucia, and overall, it was the best honeymoon we could have asked for. The travel time was very long, with two plane rides, a helicopter ride, and a thirty-minute car ride to the resort, but it was so worth it for the amazing views and attentive staff.
What makes your love story special?
What makes our love story special is the time we had to deal with long distance. Being in a long-distance relationship and dealing with college classes was very hard. We didn’t like going more than a week without seeing each other, but we made it work. We feel it strengthened our relationship, and as much as the long-distance was a pain, it was all worth it in the end.
What about your life together are you most excited about?
There are many things we have experienced in the first year of marriage that we are very proud of, such as buying our first home together. But if we had to choose what we are most excited about in the upcoming years, it would be to becomeparents. We can’t wait to see where God takes us. Since we were little, becoming good parents was a huge goal for us. We are enjoying life as a married couple, but we’re excited about what the future holds for us.
