The 14th Annual Jeans and Bling benefiting Hospice of Texarkana was held at the Texarkana, Texas Convention Center on Saturday, October 7, 2023. The evening kicked off with a celebrity lip sync contest, where Jaimie Alexander prevailed as the winner. The other competing celebrities were Kathy Lach and Katie Stone, with an encore performance from last year's reigning champ Cathy VanHerpen and her Ditzy Chicks Entourage. The evening also included a live dance band from Fayetteville, Boom Kinetic.
Monday, September 18, 2023, the 34th Annual Opportunities Inc. Golf Invitational Tournament was held at Texarkana Country Club. The mission of Opportunities Inc. is to provide developmental and support services to children and adults with disabilities, supporting them in attaining a full life and encouraging the recognition of the value and abilities of all to our community. In the past 34 years, Opportunities has raised over 3.5 million dollars from this event. These funds have been life-changing for the children and adults who are served by Opportunities Inc.
On Sunday, September 24, 2023, CASA hosted the 18th annual Songwriters on the Edge of Texas concert, featuring an acoustic show by Stoney Larue. The event included dinner donated by Outback Steak House, a Tiny House raffle drawing, and gift basket drawings. CASA would like to thank its many generous sponsors and donors. All proceeds go directly back to CASA for children and TCAC. Northeast Texas CASA provides coordinated services to abused and neglected children through our CASA for Children and Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center programs.
The 4th Annual Just Love and Kindness Golf Tournament and Auction was held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Texarkana Golf Ranch in loving memory of Jarrod L. Klein. Laura and Robert Klein lost their youngest son, Jarrod, in 2017 to a senseless, meaningless, and preventable tragedy. Since then, they have watched even more families suffer this same fate, and as a family/collective/hive want better for our community. In honor of his memory, they started Just Love and Kindness to make a difference in our community.
