Strengthening Our Community: The Leaders Behind the Mental Health Update

When it comes to mental health care in Texarkana, collaboration, connection, and compassion are the pillars that clinicians and educators build upon to support individuals and families across the region. Building those connections is exactly what inspired Dr. Jennifer Turner-Marks and Dr. Kristine Yells to bring back Mental Health Update to Texarkana. … Mental Health Update is a conference that focuses on strengthening our community through collaboration and provides continuing education credits, CEUs, needed yearly for most clinicians in many different disciplines.

A Fresh Take on Fast Casual

HOMETOWN PARTNER SPOTLIGHT … When Mike and Daphne Cox, Mark and Jennifer Townsend, and Sam and Val Markezich brought Newk's Eatery to Texarkana, they weren't just opening a restaurant. They were investing in a community they call home. Newk's Eatery has built a loyal following in the Twin Cities for its made-to-order menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas, all crafted with fresh, quality ingredients. The concept is simple but executed well: real food, made fresh, served fast.

More Than Fair

HOMETOWN PARTNER SPOTLIGHT … … There is a particular kind of place that holds a community together, not through headlines or grand gestures, but through steady presence and the accumulation of shared memories. In Texarkana, the Four States Fairgrounds is that place. … The fairgrounds have been part of the fabric of this region since 1945, when a group of civic-minded citizens chartered an organization with a purpose as straightforward as it was ambitious: to encourage agriculture, education, and community through public fairs and expositions.

The Global Water Crisis, Up Close

I flinch, feeling the pressure of my backpack digging into my shoulders–then immediately feel ridiculous for noticing. … I’ve barely walked a hundred meters with it and now stand watching as three women, my age or younger, climb down a muddy slope towards a murky waterhole. I straighten my shoulders and take a deep breath.

Raised Right Here

TRAHC's 2026 Honors Gala celebrates two hometown sons who took their love of storytelling all the way to Hollywood and Broadway. … Every city has a story it tells about itself. Texarkana's best story might be the one about the kids who grew up here, fell in love with something creative, and chased it all the way to the top.

Elevating Everyday Elegance

HOMETOWN PARTNER SPOTLIGHT … There are stylists, and then there is Kenzie Bullock. As owner of Kenzie Bullock Hair and The Emmanuel Salon in Texarkana, Texas, she has built something rare in the beauty industry. A reputation that extends well beyond the local community and into the upper echelons of modern hair artistry worldwide. … Ranked among the top 100 extension artists globally, Kenzie serves high-level CEOs, global influencers, and distinguished public figures who entrust her with one of their most visible assets.

A Clean Start

For years, I couldn’t shake a calling that kept returning to me in quiet moments and restless nights. It wasn’t complicated, and it wasn’t grand in the way people usually imagine a “vision.” It was simple: people needed a place to shower. In 2019, that idea began to take shape through recurring dreams. I kept seeing people who were struggling, people with no place to clean up, no way to restore even a small sense of dignity. Each time I woke up, the message was the same. I was being called to help. At first, I tried to ignore it.
