I grew up with a blend of two cultures: the one I was raised in and the one I was born into. … I was born in San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato, Mexico, but I was raised in various cities in Texas. I received my citizenship at birth because my father was a citizen before I was born. From the beginning, life was divided in two: where I was born and where I grew up. My whole life has been a series of driving or taking the bus from here to Mexico and back.
Haven Homes Texarkana is a shining example of the power of community to nurture and grow a vision that addresses a critical need. Through the faith and generosity of the TXK community as well as loyal friends of the Haven Homes ministry, this faith-based and community-driven recovery program has evolved into a pillar for addiction recovery in NE Texas. Since its launch in 2013, the ministry has grown from one modest transition home for women into a comprehensive program for both men & women, with four facilities serving dozens who seek freedom from alcoholism and addiction.

After months of discomfort, Lori finally talked to her doctor during her annual gynecological exam. She outlined her symptoms and went in for special tests. Stage IIIC ovarian cancer was confirmed.
Doctor Russell Stanley is a Gynecologist and Urogynecologist at Christus Trinity Clinic with a heart for helping and healing. Dr. Stanley grew up in Abilene, Texas, and spent most of his life in Texas. He attended Baylor University, where he earned a B.A. Degree in Religion. Subsequently, Dr. Stanley returned to Abilene and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Hardin-Simmons University while serving as a Baptist Pastor in a rural church. He and his wife, Lauren, were high school sweethearts and married when they were at Baylor.
This September marks the 18th annual Songwriter’s on the Edge of Texas event hosted by CASA for Children and the Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center. The Edge of Texas committee has hosted performers such as Bob Schneider, Junior Brown, Randy Rogers, and many more at Northridge Country Club year after year until it was put on hiatus in 2020 for the pandemic. This year, we are bringing back the Songwriters on the Edge of Texas event with an acoustic show by Stoney Larue.
