Good Evening TXK

I' m about to share an unpopular opinion. It is so unpopular that it will probably be almost offensive to some, so don’t hate me, but… even though I know Thanksgiving should be a holiday for all, I honestly wish Whataburger was open on Thanksgiving Day. Yes, I mean this wholeheartedly. Don’t get me wrong, ham and turkey are GREAT, but would it really be so bad to throw a honey butter chicken biscuit on the side? And you can never go wrong with some fries!

Adventure in the Crosshairs

Mist drains over the mountains and dissipates into the chiseled valley’s belly. At its peaks, clouds are reborn again and again—a contagion of wispy foam. The vapors bind to the chill under the sun and fill the space left between heaven and earth. Among the stillness in the air, flocks of sheep faintly bleat. … Longtime local Kendal Howe works as the payroll services coordinator for Texas A&M-Texarkana but cashed in some vacation days, traveling hundreds of miles north for a big Alaskan sheep hunt.

TXK Book Club—Talking to Strangers

There seems to be a constant buzz in the air at the end of each year that gives us cause to reflect. When I looked back over 2020, I proudly realized I had become an avid reader. I went from (maybe) one-three books per year to 61 books in 2020. Maybe it was the quarantine, maybe it was AirPods, but I had undoubtedly covered more content than I had in years. I followed a guide I found on Pinterest for the year that suggested a new theme each month, which helped me step way out of my comfort zone. Full disclosure...

In the Four States area where football is king, Reece Gaylor has made a name for himself on the soccer pitch. Reece, a junior at Texas High School, was selected to the first-team all-district lists in his freshman and sophomore seasons, as well as being selected to the USYS ODP South Region Pool Team. The talented Tiger has now taken his talents overseas to an Integrated U19 Residential Academy at Schalke 04 in Germany.

‘Tis the season for all things PUMPKIN! … From the notorious Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes to the pumpkin spice cereal lurking in the grocery aisles, in October, inevitably, you just can’t escape the pumpkin spice and all its many various mutations. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be hiding on the couch in my apartment with a scary movie on and pretending pumpkin spice doesn’t exist.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love taking baths! And when I say I love taking baths, I mean that 95% of my life is spent in the bathtub. There’s no way I could do justice to the euphoric feeling I get when I’m soaking my worries away in the bathtub through simply words alone, so I won’t even try.

Sliding Into Home

When Kim and Randall Glass built their current home, their oldest son, James, was merely a toddler, and they were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their youngest son, Will. They knew planning for the future would be important for their growing family, so they designed a house that could grow and change over the years as the needs of their boys changed. … Situated on a ridge overlooking farmland, the Glass’ Tuscan home is both grand and welcoming. “We wanted to be in the city limits, and after looking at lots, the ridge’s view sold it,” Kim said.

In the 80s!

Golf is unlike any other sport I play. It's relaxing, yet so stressful at the same time. Golf requires more patience and time. When I first started, I was terrible. I could not even hit the ball. It took me at least 20 swings before I made contact with it. But once I did, I was hooked. It is the best feeling.

Texarkana got its beginnings in 1873 at the junction of the Texas and Pacific and Cairo and Fulton railroads. What was once a thunderous rumble of locomotives passing through town in the late 1800s and early 1900s is now replaced with the hum of 18-wheelers traveling down Interstate 30, except for Friday evenings in the fall, when the roar of our local high school football stadiums fills the autumn air.

You remember the drop in your stomach you felt as a child when you were walking next to your mom’s buggy in Walmart on a lazy mid summer afternoon and you stumbled upon the dreaded sight of the terrifying school supply section that seemingly pops up out of nowhere? Yeah, that’s how I feel walking past Great American Cookie Company in the mall now that I’m trying to eat healthier. You think to yourself, “NOOOOOO! It’s MID-JULY. Why would Walmart place this blasphemy right in front of our faces like this?” Not cool, Walmart!
