In the 80s!

Golf is unlike any other sport I play. It's relaxing, yet so stressful at the same time. Golf requires more patience and time. When I first started, I was terrible. I could not even hit the ball. It took me at least 20 swings before I made contact with it. But once I did, I was hooked. It is the best feeling.

Texarkana got its beginnings in 1873 at the junction of the Texas and Pacific and Cairo and Fulton railroads. What was once a thunderous rumble of locomotives passing through town in the late 1800s and early 1900s is now replaced with the hum of 18-wheelers traveling down Interstate 30, except for Friday evenings in the fall, when the roar of our local high school football stadiums fills the autumn air.

Good Evening TXK

You remember the drop in your stomach you felt as a child when you were walking next to your mom’s buggy in Walmart on a lazy mid summer afternoon and you stumbled upon the dreaded sight of the terrifying school supply section that seemingly pops up out of nowhere? Yeah, that’s how I feel walking past Great American Cookie Company in the mall now that I’m trying to eat healthier. You think to yourself, “NOOOOOO! It’s MID-JULY. Why would Walmart place this blasphemy right in front of our faces like this?” Not cool, Walmart!

Life on Tour

Growing up in an athletic family with brothers being star football players and wrestlers, I never thought the game of golf would become the thing I am most passionate about in life. At a young age, I knew I wanted to pave my own path and accomplish my own goals that would be set by myself instead of following in the footsteps of doing the exact things my older brothers had accomplished. The game of golf was introduced to me at the age of three by my father after giving me my very first set of plastic clubs.

In the always true words of my good friend Ali Deal, “I thrive in the summertime.” … Summer is my jam. Summer is MY season. Summer is the feeling you get staring at a sunset while listening to the crickets chirp and watching the passing fireflies. I love nostalgically submerging myself back into my blissfully naive middle school days where I would run the streets on hot summer nights with my friends, then stay up with them until 4 am listening to our favorite summer songs playing on the tiny radio I had in my room.

Living Ultra

The sun sinks behind a curtain of trees as your heart pounds along with your feet battling the rugged terrain. You know there’s someone behind you, so you’ve got to stay ahead. You can’t stop. Time seems exponential and your vision is muddled. … “Will I make it?” … For most people, this nightmare is a fleeting dream, but for local father of three, Brad Taylor, it’s his reality and hobby. … Taylor is what’s known as a “trail ultra-runner,” running distances of over marathon length (26.2 miles) in a single outing. He began the sport three years ago to manage his physical and mental health.

31 Budget-Friendly Things To Do In North Arkansas

Some of the best things in life are free and they’re in Arkansas. The Natural State has unique locations that can be enjoyed for nothing but the time it takes to get there.

… • In the Ozarks, the Buffalo National River with its towering limestone bluffs is America’s first national river. Hiking trails traverse historic farmsteads, quiet stream valleys, wooded mountainsides, and offer bluff-top vistas.

Moving Fore-ward

Graci Henard stepped up to the 15th tee box of the 2020 Jay Brewer Memorial Lady Tiger Classic at Texarkana Country Club, down five strokes with four holes to play. After a 30-foot birdie on the 15th hole and a par on the 16th, Henard was still down three strokes with two holes to play. During this improbable comeback moment, she kept saying to herself (and out loud) “I want it more than her.

Six things to do in June!F or me, the beginning of summer is also the beginning of something incredibly special and dear to my heart—half price milkshakes at Sonic! … My friends and I used to spend hot summer nights playing volleyball at Bringle Lake courts, then we would head down to Richmond Road Sonic to cool off with a chocolate shake. Needless to say, I always gain around 15 pounds during the summer, but I really don’t care.

Batter Up

As Billy Beane questioned in the movie Moneyball, “How can you not be romantic about baseball?” We love going to the games. We love the atmosphere. … People go crazy over the players, the rules, the stadium and the food. But only a few pay attention to the mechanics that go into making the sport what it really is. Baseball is not all about natural talent; it is about the techniques perfected by the players after countless swings and after running plays repetitively over many years.
