The Pause Between the Notes … A Message from 2025 TISD Valedictorian Oviya Justin … Good evening everyone, Superintendent Brubaker, Principal Renner, administrators, teachers, parents, siblings, and most importantly, the Class of 2025. Thank you all for being here on this special day. … It's an honor to be here addressing you all as Valedictorian of Texas High, and I’m forever grateful to have had the privilege of receiving such a quality education. I know that's unfortunately more than a lot of people can say. We live in a world where receiving an education is often a luxury in many parts.

TISD 2025 Top Ten

… … Oviya Elisabeth Justin has been named the Valedictorian for the 2025 graduating class of Texas High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Justin. Oviya is an AP Scholar with Distinction, Texas Scholar, Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. She was selected to the National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists, and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, where she served as President.

Changing Trajectories: Mother and Son Graduate Together at UAHT

Amber Walker had always dreamed of attending college and becoming a nurse, but those plans were put on hold when she became a single mom at 18. She had her son, Dawson Hinds, at a young age and spent many years raising him alone until she met her wonderful husband. “For a long time, I put my own goals on the back burner to focus on giving my children the love, support, and stability they needed,” Amber said.

TXK on Display

Imagine if you could maximize the aesthetics and pride on Stateline Avenue with public art. That is exactly the question posed to five community members participating in the 2024-2025 Leadership Texarkana Class. Ignited by the opportunity, this group, who had never met before, generated a generous amount of spirited discussion and several ideas, which, looking back, were actually quite comical. Before long, the catchy phrase "TXK on Display" was adopted as the official group name, and ideas started flowing.

Living in Grace

“In my life, I have suffered domestic and substance abuse. I was led to donate to Grace House because they represent a need that I see and know. I personally was lucky enough to have an escape plan and route, but so many women and children think they have no other choice but to return to their abuser or abusers. People in need of these services are all too often treated with the least dignity. They need love, compassion, respect, and every support. The PTSD and somatic responses live on... until nourished and treated. That’s where Grace House comes in.
