Songs, Sass, and Sequins

"I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony…" Whether that little excerpt makes you want to sing, bring peace to the world, or drink a coke, those words came to mind the night at the recent 4-States Fusion Chorus friends and family night. 4-States Fusion is Texarkana's all-female, barbershop style, a cappella, song and performance group. The choral ensemble consists of twenty women of all ages from Texarkana and its surrounding areas. To say that this group is talented is, perhaps, the biggest understatement of all time.

The Power of Believing in Someone

When the idea came up to write about my career and the story of Sticks Baseball for Texarkana Magazine, I really had no idea if anyone would be interested. Years of trying to inspire everyone around me have led me to believe that if one article, or one interview, can impact even just one person, then it is worth sharing.

Shhhhhhhhhh…

The world of the 2020s has been one filled with debate. People these days don’t even seem to be very picky about what they are debating. According to many, loudly voicing arguments has become the key to unlocking the change we want to see in the world. And to take it a step further, being willing to fly in the face of the dreaded norm seems to prove one is a real humanitarian. “I will stand up for my rights.” “I demand to be heard.” “I will not be ignored.” “You must listen to me and also take up my cause, or you are definitely _____-phobic.” (Fill in the blank.

Bledsoe-Williams Wedding

Spare

One thing that I know for sure about the Royal Family is that everyone has an opinion. Mostly differing. Beyond that, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what is as made up as a Walt Disney fairytale. As Americans, we’ve only “known” the House of Windsor from across the pond and through the tabloids.

Love... It's A Big Deal!

Here we are again. Another February is here, and we all have love on the brain. But what is love exactly? Love is a word with a thousand meanings, and we use it a hundred times a week. We love our families. We love pizza. We love that certain smell or the new iPhone. Technically, it is the same word, but “love” is the vocabulary equivalent of a costume which has a variety of masks. In one sentence, love’s mask is emotional and declares devotion. In another sentence, love’s mask simply identifies preference and guides our daily choices.
